Job Description

Position Title: Senior Communications Associate, Marketing & Design

Supervisor:Director of Communications

 
Summary:
The Senior Communications Associate for Marketing & Design is responsible for leading and executing creative efforts for American Public Television (APT). This position reports to the Director of Communications; however, this person will work directly with various members of the APT senior management team, including the president and chief executive officer.
 
Essential Functions:
  • General Design responsibilities: Respond to specific requests for the design and creation/placement of all institutional (APT) promotion and marketing materials.
  • Advertising: Build and manage an annual advertising plan and budget for industry trades
  • Fall Marketplace: Create an annual look and feel, including event logotype, for annual APT major programming event. Work with Director to build appropriate budget to cover all relevant design costs
  • Create TV: Play leading role in design and execution of all Create materials and images, working with the senior principals involved with the Channel.
  • Brainstorm, research and help plan marketing campaigns with team
  • Establish good relations with vendors and work with them to meet our needs
  • Measure marketing efforts through follow up with press, stations and web tools
  • Promote and brand APT and work closely with stations to coordinate co-promotion strategies
  • Backup press pitching/editorial calendars/strategizing with Communications team
  • Dependable work attendance necessary
  • Occasional overtime on evenings and weekends to complete projects within tight deadlines
  • Participate in general staff meetings and contribute ideas to help lift the individual programs and the overall APT brand
  • Work with other departments and Communications team to coordinate and execute mailings
  • Actively participate and contribute to weekly Communications team meetings
  • Provide colleague back-up on major projects including layout, design, database updates and creation of personalized documents
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Additional Duties And Responsibilities:
  • Occasional travel
  •  
    Qualifications:
  • Qualifications include three or more years experience in design and creative services, preferably in media or public television.
  • College undergraduate degree, preferably in communications or creative arts; or related experience
  • Successful hands-on design management experience necessary, experience in working with printers a must
  • Ability to think creatively, manage projects, solve problems, provide strong customer service, and work extremely well with staff and peers are a must
  • Demonstrated experience in meeting tight timelines and working within fixed budget
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Quark, inDesign, Flash Animation, Dreamweaver, PowerPoint and other design software applications and technology
  • Portfolio of relevant work will be required upon initial interview
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in Lotus software application a plus
  • Ability to administer budget and coordinate invoicing for services
  • Ability to manage varying internal and external requirements

    Personal Characteristics:
  • Demonstrated experience in a multi-tasking environment and ability to work independently under established and self-prioritized deadlines
  • Aptitude to work in a detail oriented environment with a strong focus on creativity, professionalism and accuracy
  • Sense of humor and someone who enjoys their work and shared success
