APT Worldwide Secures Representation Rights to Doc on 1904 World's Fair
North American Home Video Rights Licensed to PBS
PRESS RELEASE
August 29, 2005 (Boston, Mass.) APT Worldwide, the international sales division of U.S. public television distributor American Public Television, has secured international representation rights for the two-hour documentary, THE WORLD'S GREATEST FAIR. Produced by Missouri, U.S.-based production company Civil Pictures, the film is an entertaining and exhaustively researched look at one of the crowning achievements of the early 20th century: the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis. North American home video rights for the title have already been licensed to PBS Home Video.
By any stretch of the imagination, the 1904 World's Fair was a monumental undertaking. Estimated to cost over $40 million — around $820 million in today's currency — the event covered more than 1200 acres and featured close to 1500 individual buildings. It would eventually go on to draw an astounding 20 million visitors during its seven-month run.
THE WOLRD'S GREATEST FAIR highlights every aspect of this magnificent event: from the enormous Ferris wheel that could accommodate 2000 riders at one time, to the mock naval battle that used live shells. Combining actual film footage of the fair — from the earliest days of moviemaking — with painstakingly restored images originally shot on large glass negatives, the documentary provides a rare glimpse of a world on the brink of great technological and social changes. Through interviews with historians and authors, as well as narrated accounts from attendees, THE WORLD'S GREATEST FAIR captures the excitement and wonder of an exhibition that served as a preview for the coming century.
