AMERICAN PUBLIC TELEVISION ANNOUNCES
2007 FALL MARKETPLACE AWARDS
BOSTON, November 16, 2007 – American Public Television (APT), a leading distributor of programming to the nation's public television stations, announced 10 industry awards at its annual Fall Marketplace meeting held from Nov. 7-10 in Tucson, Ariz.
APT President and CEO Cynthia Fenneman presented renowned author and television personality Christopher Kimball with the 2007 MVP Award. The MVP Award honors a special person, program or entity for outstanding contributions to public television.
Since 2001, Kimball has hosted 195 episodes during seven seasons of America's Test Kitchen From Cook's Illustrated, the highest-rated cooking show on public TV. Additionally, he has hosted three fundraising specials: America's Test Kitchen:
Mastering Shrimp, Inside America's Test Kitchen and America's Test Kitchen Live!
In 2007, America's Test Kitchen With Cook's Illustrated was nominated for a James Beard Award: "Best National TV Food Show."
Fenneman also presented three public television programmers with the 2007 Savvy Scheduler Award: Bill Thrash of Oklahoma Educational Television, Scott Dwyer of KQED, San Francisco, and David Rubinsohn of WHYY, Philadelphia. This award honors programmers who have used APT programs to the great advantage of their station.
"APT syndicated offers are cornerstones in my schedule," said Dwyer. "They play a crucial role in building my ratings week in and week out."
In addition, Fenneman honored six APT series that have excelled in station schedules with 2007 Programming Excellence Awards. These awards are determined by a combination of ratings, carriage and production excellence. This year's winners include:
Globe Trekker, presented by WETA, Washington, D.C. and produced by Pilot Productions
Picturing Mary, presented by Thirteen/WNET, New York and produced by Thirteen/WNET and The Edge Facilities, Ltd. in association with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
Smart Travels Europe and Smart Travels Pacific Rim, presented by KCTS, Seattle and produced by Small World Productions
Travels to the Edge With Art Wolfe, presented by Oregon Public Broadcasting and produced by Edge of the Earth Productions
APT Fall Marketplace 2008 will take place from Nov. 12-15 in Houston.
