PUBLIC TELEVISION MUSIC SPECIALS FEATURE GRAMMY NOMINEES
PAUL MCCARTNEY, TONY BENNETT AND KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD
BOSTON (Dec. 7, 2007) – Several artists featured in American Public Television (APT)-distributed programs were nominated last night for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, to be held Feb. 10, 2008 in Los Angeles.
Legendary rocker Paul McCartney was nominated for three awards: Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the track “Dance Tonight,” Best Pop Album for Memory Almost Full, and Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for “Only Mama Knows.” McCartney’s work can be viewed in PAUL MCCARTNEY: ECCE COR MEUM (Behold My Heart), a live performance special of his acclaimed classical piece. The program is slated to premiere in 2008 on public television stations nationwide.
McCartney is also featured in another Grammy-nominated work, the accompanying album to the APT-distributed Beatles film HELP! THE MOVIE, currently airing on public television stations. The soundtrack to the classic 1965 picture was nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.
Other acclaimed artists from APT programs currently airing received nominations. Crooner Tony Bennett, of TONY BENNETT DUETS: THE MAKING OF AN AMERICAN CLASSIC, received a nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for his duet with Christina Aguilera on “Steppin’ Out.” Bluesman Kenny Wayne Shepherd, featured in KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD: TEN DAYS OUT: BLUES FROM THE BACKROADS, received two nominations, for Best Long Form Music Video and Best Traditional Blues Album. The Soweto gospel choir of SOWETO GOSPEL CHOIR - LIVE IN CONCERT, received a Best Traditional World Music Album nomination for their album African Spirit.
