Description

ADRIFT is a meditative portrait of loss in an Irish-American family. When the four Curran children lost their father, an extroverted former district attorney, 12-year old Tom made a secret vow to become an "big-league" athlete for his Dad. The film chronicles Tom Curran's journey into the past to trace how he and his siblings have struggled to live up to their late father's expectations. Curran, the eldest, reveals his personal battles with fear, risk, success and failure, and how the death of his father affected him, his brothers Desmond and Gavin, sister Maeve and mother Mary Jane. ADRIFT reaches behind what psychologist Dr. William Pollack — project advisor and author of the best-selling book Real Boys — calls the "mask of masculinity" to shed light on fears and emotions usually suppressed by boys and men to the point of dysfunction.
