PEEP AND THE BIG WIDE WORLD
EPISODE 1
A Duck's Tale
After meeting a skunk for the very first time, Quack discovers a surprising flaw in duck design.
The kids are playing a game. They can't see the thing, but they have to guess what it is - by smelling it!. They also take a walk around the city to find more smells. "Try going on a smelling adventure. Just follow your nose."
Quack’s Tracks
On the first snowy day of winter, Peep loses Quack, learns about footprints, and builds a snow duck.
Otis the dog walks right in the paint and across a big picture the kids are making. This gives the kids an idea. "Try making your own kind of tracks."
EPISODE 2
Quack and the Very Big Rock
Quack is utterly flummoxed when a big rock plants itself in a very inconsiderate spot.
There's a big hill in the park. The kids are rolling things down the hill to see what goes the fastest and the farthest. "See what happens when you try to move things down a hill."
Shadow Play
Peep, Quack, and Chirp discover their shadows—then use them to teach Tom (that trouble-making cat!) a lesson.
Light makes shadows! The kids make shadow puppets with construction paper and put on a show. "Try finding and making shadows in your home and have fun with them too."
EPISODE 3
Current Events
Peep borrows a toy boat from Nellie’s yard and sets off for mysterious, unreachable Green Island.
Sarah is filling the pool with a hose. There are leaves and sticks in the pool, and it's cool the way the flow of water moves the stuff around. "See what happens when you put things in streams of water."
Quack Loses His Hat
In order to save Quack (who’s stuck inside a pickle jar—don’t ask), Peep must figure out how to float a duck.
Some things float and other things sink. That's what the kids find out when they start putting stuff in the pool. "Try putting things in the water to see what floats and what sinks."
EPISODE 4
Night Light
Afraid that the sun has forgotten to rise, Peep and Quack are relieved when they discover a flashlight.
Shadows can help you make pictures! The kids trace shadows inside on paper and outside on the driveway to make pictures. "Try making shadows with your friends."
Sounds Like. . .
Peep and Chirp get lost, but use a range of familiar—and annoying!—sounds to find their way home.
The kids discover that there is sound all around them. They take a walk around the city to find sources of sound. "Try listening for sounds all around where you live."
EPISODE 5
The Windy Day
A windy day makes Chirp long to fly, but when she accidentally gets aloft, she discovers it isn't as easy as it looks.
The wind can blow bubbles for you! The kids discover that the wind can power their fun. "Try to see what you can do on a windy day."
Peep Feet
How big is a step? Turns out it means one thing to a cat, another thing to a rabbit, and something else altogether to a Peep.
If you want to measure, you have to count. The kids stack blocks to measure themselves. "See if you can figure out how to measure things at home."
EPISODE 6
Newton’s Big Adventure
Newton the turtle has a series of excellent adventures—involving a puddle, some dandelion fluff, and a very spooky cracker box.
The kids look for very small plants and creatures in a very small area outside. "Try looking very closely in a small area and see what you can find."
Peep Crosses the Road
Peep discovers the answer to that ancient conundrum: “Why did the chicken cross the road?”
A stream in the woods is the perfect place to float things in a current. The kids also make their own stream at home. "Try putting things in a stream of water to see how they move."
EPISODE 7
Stormy Weather
Peep’s first encounter with thunder and lightning makes for a wet and tumultuous day.
What does the rain leave behind? The kids find water droplets around the yard, and then make their own rain. "Take a look around where you live to see what happens after it rains."
Peep in Rabbitland
After falling into a rabbit hole and meeting three fuzzy bunnies, Peep decides to try life underground.
What makes a home? For the kids it's some cardboard bricks, chairs and blankets to make the walls, a porch and a roof. "Think of what you would like to have in a house you build."
EPISODE 8
Quack's Stuck Stick
Peep discovers a beaver dam and a young, toothy beaver, while Quack, alas, loses his favorite stick.
The flow of water is hard to control. But the kids find a way using bricks and sand. "See what happens when you try to block the flow of water."
Peep’s Can
Peep searches for a house he can call...home.
It's a rainy day. Perfect weather to build cardboard houses inside. Will a cardboard roof stop the rain? The kids also build a cardboard house outside to find out. "Try to build a home for yourself."
EPISODE 9
Under Duck
Quack discovers there's more to his pond than meets the eye. (Namely, fish.)
How many living things could there be in a little playground? If you don't look, you'll never find out. The kids DO look, and they find all kinds of things. "Try looking around a place, to see what living things you can find."
All Fall Down
Spooked by falling leaves, Squeak the mouse warns Peep that the entire sky will soon be tumbling down.
Things don't seem to fall the same way. This is what the kids discover when they drop different objects from the top of their backyard swing set. "See what happens when you drop things."
EPISODE 10
Spring Thing
It’s winter, it’s blah, and everything looks dead. Can Peep, Quack, and Chirp survive until spring?
When do plants start growing? The kids find buds, sprouts and little flowers starting to grow on the first day of Spring. "Try looking closely for things that are growing."
Springy Thingy
Peep discovers his inner bounce when he encounters a frog, a mattress, and a jack-in-the-box.
What can you make out of junk? The kids recycle trash to create contraptions, guitars and boats. "Try making things out of stuff that's been thrown away"
EPISODE 11
The Perils of Peep and Chirp
Emboldened by the ice, Peep and Chirp try to walk across Big Bay.
On a hot, hot day, the kids are playing with cold, cold ice. They watch how it melts. Do you know what they can make out of ice? An ice castle. "Try playing with different shapes of ice to see how it melts."
Hoop Tricks
Chirp finds a beautiful bracelet and soon discovers all the amazing things it can do!
What's in the recycling bin? The kids find lots of stuff that's perfect for making musical instruments and things to wear. "Try finding things that are being thrown away, then turn them into something completely different".
EPISODE 12
Save It for Later
Chirp can’t seem to protect her acorn collection from several ravenous squirrels and one thoughtless duck.
The yard is full of stuff to collect. The kids make a backyard museum featuring an exhibit of sticks, balls, leaves and more. "Try collecting things and sorting them."
The Red Ballmoon
Chirp has a perilous (but thrilling!) adventure when she meets up with a big, red balloon.
It's Sarah's birthday party so there are lots of balloons around. The kids try to raise small toys by tying them to the balloons. How many balloons will it take to raise the toy car? "Try having fun with different kinds of balloons."
EPISODE 13
Chirp Builds a Nest
Desperate to fly, Chirp wonders if building a nest will help her?
The kids decide to build a house for their stuffed animals and action figures. With cardboard and tape they make an excellent 2 story house with a roof. Will it work in the rain? "Find some old boxes and try building your own house."
Stuck Duck
How do you unstick a duck who’s stuck in a hollow log? (Say that five times, fast!)
What can you do with an old piece of tubing or pipe? The kids are rolling balls through tubes. One ball gets stuck, but the kids know what to do to get the ball unstuck. "Try rolling balls through different kinds of tubes."
EPISODE 14
The Real Decoy
Quack finds a majestic duck (a decoy, actually) and refuses to admit that there’s something strange about her.
Otis the dog is the perfect model for making a clay sculpture. So is Brittany the parakeet. The kids try to reproduce the shape, color, fur and feather of Otis and Brittany in clay. "Try making a clay model of a favorite animal or pet."
Peep’s Lost Leaf
One windy day, Peep spies the “perfect” leaf and decides to chase it down.
It's a windy day. Will the wind make it easier to rake the leaves? Not at first, but after a while the kids learn to use the wind to their advantage for work and play. "Try playing with leaves and things outside on a windy day."
EPISODE 15
Birds of a Feather
Peep discovers a beautiful feather, then sets out to find its rightful owner.
Some cloth is fuzzy, some is scratchy. Feathers are very soft, and sequins are like little CDs. The kids are playing dress up and noticing all the different textures of the old clothes they found. "Try looking at clothes very closely to see how they look and feel."
The Incredible Shrinking Duck
Quack builds a snow monument to himself, but is horrified to discover that snow—and fame—don’t last.
From ice, to water, to …..? The kids find that they can "paint" on the sidewalk using the water made by melting ice. But their paintings disappear in the hot sun. "Try playing with water and ice and see how they change over time."
EPISODE 16
Go West Young Peep
Where does the sun go at night? Peep and Chirp decide to follow their shadows and find out.
Why did the shadow move? The kids are tracing the shadows of things on the playground and themselves, but the shadows seem to move and stretch with the passage of time. "Watch what happens to shadows as the sun moves across the sky."
A Delicate Balance
What do big birds have that Chirp doesn’t? Lots of yummy, juicy sunflower seeds, for one thing.
A board and a block make a see-saw. The kids use weight, leverage and balance to lift each other and launch things into the air. "Go outside and try to lift and launch things with blocks and boards."
EPISODE 17
The Fish Museum
Poor Fish Jr. She wants so much to wear sneakers and sit in a tree. Can Quack make her dreams come true?
Making boats and floating them in a pool is fun. Sinking them is even more fun! The kids let their boats take on water and sink. They also make them sink by adding heavy cargo. "Try making boats that float AND sink."
Peep’s Night Out
Goaded by Squeak, Peep decides to experience life after dark.
What can you see in the night sky? Well, according to the kids, the moon is like a giant cookie, and the stars make patterns of crystals, rectangles and lions. "Take a look at the night sky and see what you can see."
EPISODE 18
There’s No Place Like Home
Quack sets out to prove that HIS pond is the best and biggest pond in all the world.
The kids are setting up a lemonade stand. How much juice is there in 2 lemons? The kids try to estimate the volume of liquid held in a lemon and in a pitcher as they mix lemonade. "Try having fun with guessing, mixing and measuring."
Flipping Newton
How do you unflip a turtle? (It’s not as easy as you might think!)
Lifting big rocks is easy when you use levers. The kids make a lever with a board and a brick to raise some pretty heavy things. "See if you can lift things with the help of blocks, bricks and boards."
EPISODE 19
Chirp’s Flight Program
Chirp’s flying practice really takes off when she decides to copy what other birds do.
Gliders can fly well depending on how you throw them. The kids have fun watching how toy planes and helicopters fly - and how they DON'T fly. "Have fun watching how different flying toys can fly."
Mirror, Mirror in the Dump
The birds find a mirror and Quack falls in love with himself, all over again.
Mirrors offer some interesting ways of seeing. The kids notice how a mirror makes things look backwards. They also learn to see around corners and create the illusion of infinite space. "Try looking at things differently by using mirrors."
EPISODE 20
Bridge the Gap
The birds discover pineapples (they’re pinecones, actually) but must build a bridge to reach them.
While playing with toy cars the kids discover a ditch. How will they get their cars across it? They build some successful and unsuccessful bridges with cardboard from the recycling bin. "Try making your own little bridges. It's fun!"
Meeting Half-way
Newton is delighted to learn of another turtle. (Well, he will be delighted if he can ever manage to meet her.)
The kids are going to play a game and they need to make two equal court areas. They use chalk to mark out two areas that look the same and then use counting to verify the halfway point. "Try counting and measuring to find the middle of something."
EPISODE 21
Peep Plants a Seed
Peep discovers a patch of sunflowers and decides to grow one for himself.
What do seeds need in order to sprout? The kids place seeds and beans on 2 trays with moist paper towels and set them by the window. One is covered so it gets no light. How do the seeds look a week later? "Try growing things from seeds, beans and peas."
The Root Problem
There’s a snake in Quack’s pond! (Fish are one thing, but a snake is completely unacceptable.)
A worm. An old piece of sidewalk. A strangely colored rock. Where did the kids find these things? By digging holes you never know what you might find. "See what you can find when you dig some holes."
EPISODE 22
Hide and Go Peep
Peep and Chirp invent a wonderful new game—and Quack quickly learns that it’s not easy being blue!
Diba is "it" in a game of hide and seek. Josh camouflaged himself in a bush. She found him. Tessa was wearing light clothing so she hid among light things. Diba found her. Where's Oliver? "See if you can find good places to hide yourself when you play hide and seek."
A Peep of a Different Color
Peep, Quack, and Chirp discover paint and the joy of looking different.
The kids are making a big colorful map of a city. They have green, blue, red, yellow, black and white paint. How can they make purple? How about a lighter green? "Try mixing paint to make your own colors."
EPISODE 23
That’s a Cat
It’s Peep’s first day on earth—and all the other animals gather round to teach him about cats.
Long fur, short fur. Black, tan and grey. Sleepy or friendly. These are the ways the kids describe the cats they find on a neighborhood walk. "See how many different kinds of cats you can find in your neighborhood."
Faster Than a Duck
Is a rabbit faster than a duck? A beaver? An ant? There’s one way to find out!
Geese waddle. Crickets jump. Dogs run. This is what the kids determine as they try to imitate the movements of animals. "See how different animals move, then try to move just like them."
EPISODE 24
Quack Hatches an Egg
Quack decides that a baby duck would make his pond even more perfect than it already is.
The kids are expecting. They're expecting chicks to hatch. It's an amazing thing to watch and the chicks start eating and drinking as soon as they are out of the egg. "Try visiting a farm or a pet store to see different kinds of baby animals."
The Whatchamacallit
What on earth is a “whatchamacallit?” Peep, Quack, and Chirp are determined to find out.
A book on the floor makes an excellent ramp, and so does Megan's leg. The kids race balls on ramps and observe differences in speed and distance traveled. "See what happens when you play with different kinds of ramps and balls."
EPISODE 25
Wandering Beaver
Beaver Boy wants to visit Quack’s pond but keeps getting lost. (Quack is just hopeless at giving directions.)
Oliver goes on a treasure hunt following maps made by Tessa. She drew some accurate maps using landmarks in the yard. Can Oliver find the treasure? "Try making a map to a place you go to."
Peep’s New Friend
Peep befriends a caterpillar, only to discover that some friendships are bound to change.
What kind of butterfly looks like its wings were painted? Could it be the Painted Lady? The kids visit a butterfly exhibit to learn about and witness metamorphosis. "It's not easy, but see if you can find a butterfly outside."
EPISODE 26
The Trip to Green Island
The birds have explored every last place on Earth (or so they think)—except for Green Island. Will they ever get there?
All the PEEP kids have come to the park for a giant exploration. Termite damage and a sunken ship are some of the things that our teams of kid explorers observe. "Wherever you go try to observe and explore the world all around you."
Give Me a Call
Quack tries to track down an incredibly annoying sound.
What's that sound? The kids are chasing down the source of a strange sound. Then they make some sounds of their own. "Try making sounds with things you find."
