SAMANTHA BROWN'S PLACES TO LOVE Season 4



#401 - Québec City, Canada
During Quebec Winter Carnival, Samantha starts her trip off ice canoeing on the frigid waters of the St. Lawrence River. From there she visits a popular Sugar Shack, where she learns about making maple syrup, and has a traditional Quebec meal with the owners. Exploring further, Samantha walks the picturesque streets of Petit Champlain, where she stops in a woodcarving shop and discusses the history of the storied neighborhood. Continuing on, Samantha meets Bonhomme, the legendary snowman “Ambassador of the Quebec Winter Carnival,” and learns of the Carnival’s history and importance in Canada. Samantha then visits the Hôtel de Glace (Ice Hotel), a seasonal hotel built out of ice, the only one of its kind in North America. Before she heads home, she takes a thrilling toboggan run on a course built in 1884.

#402 - Dutchess County/Hudson Valley, NY
Samantha starts off her trip to historic Dutchess County on the “Walkway Over the Hudson,” taking in dramatic views over the Hudson River and surrounding Hudson Valley. She then visits Essie’s Restaurant owned by Executive Chef Brandon Walker, sampling some of his Caribbean/Southern dishes. Heading to McEnroe Organic Farm, Samantha learns how this revolutionary farm converted itself into one of New York’s first fully organic farms and market. At Sandanona Shooting Resort, Samantha takes aim at shooting sporting clays, one of the fastest growing sports in the country. Samantha then visits one of her personal favorite tea shops, Harney & Sons in nearby Millerton, and talks with its master tea blender. Visiting Hyde Park, Samantha discusses the accomplishments of Eleanor Roosevelt with a National Park Ranger at Val-Kill, a National Historic Site, and only National Historic Site dedicated to a First Lady. Continuing on, Samantha visits the Barrett Art Center and talks with accomplished artist, Ransome, about his art influence and the importance of his work. Finishing off her trip she visits Innisfree Garden, one of the top 10 gardens in the world and takes in the beautiful views.

#403 – The Food Special
In this special episode Samantha features new and unique food scenes from her travels. Starting in Vienna she visits a café run by grandmothers who make their own cakes from scratch. Visiting Quebec City, she meets with Chef François-Emmanuel Nicol to learn about La Tanière Restaurant, and samples some unique “Boreal” dishes. Looking for some Latin fare, she goes to Phoenix and visits “The Tamale Store” and learns all about this classic Mexican dish. In the Florida Keys, Samantha samples different versions of the classic dessert from there, the key lime pie. While visiting Budapest she gets a tour of the famous food market there by local expert, Marti. She then learns to cook the famous Hungarian “Chicken Paprikash” at Marti’s home kitchen. Back in the Hudson Valley Samantha visits with an Oaxacan family that has been serving traditional dishes at their restaurant “La Cabinita” in Poughkeepsie. As a last stop, she visits “The Free House” in Nelson, New Zealand enjoying hand pulled beer with the charismatic owner.

#404 – Ft. Myers and Sanibel Island, Florida
Samantha kicks off her trip with a boat ride to the remote island of Cayo Costa, where she learns about the unique place, and finds some extraordinary shells. Hopping islands, Samantha meets Rob Wells, co-owner of the family owned Cabbage Key, who talks to her about being a steward of the island while showing Samantha his favorite spots. Back on the main land, Samantha takes a tour of Edison Ford Winter Estates, where Tom Edison once had a laboratory. At ECHO Global Farm, Samantha gets her hands dirty working alongside interns, seeing how their sustainable plants, techniques and technologies aim to help farmers around the world who are struggling to feed their families. Exploring the funky artist community of Matlacha, Samantha visits various local galleries and colorful shops, and talks with artist Leoma Lovegrove. At the J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, Samantha tours the grounds with a ranger and gets the insight into this revered Sanibel destination known for its spectacular bird viewing and its award-winning restrooms. Heading to the Sanibel Community House, Samantha joins a shell crafting class to make a keepsake with the shells she has collected on her trip.
