#801 - Past & Present
Mickela’s first trip to the island of Taiwan brings her to dance with the country’s most prominent dance company in Taipei, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre; to eat in one of Taipei’s most famous night markets; to find mindfulness through tea in the Alishan Forest; and to dance with indigenous contemporary dance company, Bulareyaung Dance Company.

#802 - Mâori in Aotearoa (New Zealand)
Mickela is graciously hosted by the indigenous guardians of the land of Aotearoa (New Zealand), the Mâori iwi (tribe) of Ngâti Whâtua Ôrâkei in Tâmaki Makaurau (Auckland). Mickela learns the dance, music, te reo Mâori language, and traditions that have been passed down by the elders for generations, including the powerful Haka that has become the symbol of Mâori pride throughout the world!

#803 - Matariki in Aotearoa (New Zealand)
Mickela continues her adventures in Tâmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa (Auckland, New Zealand), with the Mâori iwi (tribe) of Ngâti Whâtua Ôrâkei to celebrate Matariki, the Mâori New Year. This celebration represents a time when whânau (family) come together to look back to the past, reflect on the present, and look forward into the future, of making wishes for a brighter year to come!

#804 - Indigenous Taiwan
Of the 16 federally recognized tribes in Taiwan, Mickela meets with the Amis tribe, the largest of the tribes, along with members of the Tsou tribe, to learn the indigenous oral traditions of dance and song. From learning the nose flute to cooking with traditional bamboo to learning how these tribes are empowering the next generation, Mickela is taken right in these communities with open arms.

#805 - Tainan City, Taiwan
Mickela explores Tainan City, Taiwan’s oldest city (also known as the birthplace of Taiwan), through food, drumming, and dance. With a long history of foreign occupation including by the Dutch, the Japanese, and the Han Chinese, Tainan City is known for its cultural diversity, its rich history, and its burgeoning food scene driven by young Taiwanese.

#806 - Havana, Cuba
Mickela ends this Season 8 in Havana, Cuba, dancing her way through every party of the city – from feeling the spirituality of the Orishas to dancing salsa in the streets of Havana to learning and experiencing Cuba’s strong and almost forgotten Chinese history. She also meets with the next generation of Cubanos fighting to keep their culture alive through dance and the arts.
