FILMS BYKIDS is a series of documentaries shot by teenagers from around the world. Paired with filmmaking mentors, the budding directors create short personal documentaries that educate and encourage international understanding about globally relevant issues. Each half-hour documentary offers a close, personal look at the lives of four teenagers (Edelsin, Ndèye, Muhammad, Michael), between the ages of 12 and 19, who are grappling with a variety of issues—from climate change and coffee farming, to forced marriage and genital cutting in Senegal. One young director also sheds light on the impact the Syrian refugee crisis is having on a family in Germany, while another shares his experiences of being incarcerated at Rikers Island. Through the power of film, the teens are able to share their stories and ultimately learn how to become activists in their own lives.
