CULTURAL HEART OF ZEN, THE: CORE KYOTO SPECIAL
TV-G · 1 × 44 min
Producer: NHK
Zen continues to shape Kyoto’s cultural landscape in quiet but profound ways – from dry landscape gardens to temple cuisine and contemporary art. THE CULTURAL HEART OF ZEN: CORE KYOTO SPECIAL explores how the Zen school of Buddhism, introduced to Japan around 800 years ago, influences everyday life and creativity in Kyoto. It also introduces zazen, the seated meditation practice at Zen’s core, and its emphasis on calm awareness beyond words or logic. Discover how the spirit of Zen flows through the gardens, art, cuisine and other aspects of Kyoto culture.
