VOYAGE OF ADVENTURE: RETRACING DONELSON'S JOURNEY (2nd release) (2nd release)

In the harsh winter of 1779, John Donelson commanded a flotilla of thirty flatboats, carrying over 100 settlers, on a perilous 1,000-mile river expedition from Fort Patrick Henry to colonize what would eventually become Nashville. They endured smallpox, starvation, floods and battles with Native Americans during the four-month journey down the Holston, Tennessee, Ohio and Cumberland Rivers. 240 years later, award-winning photographer John Guider retraced this founding journey in a hand-built 14.5-foot motorless rowing sailboat. With over 120 striking photographs, Guider documents what has changed and what remains untouched along these Tennessee waterways. Narrated by Kathy Mattea, VOYAGE OF ADVENTURE: RETRACING DONELSON’S JOURNEY (2nd Release) reexamines Nashville's settlement story through previously marginalized voices: the enslaved people who had no choice in the perilous journey, the Cherokee whose lands were invaded and the rivers themselves, which have been dramatically transformed over two centuries.
