Stations Producers Viewers Press Educators Fall Marketplace APT Worldwide

A message from APT President and CEO, Cynthia Fenneman

As cities across the U.S. struggle with centuries of racism and its effects, American Public Television stands in support of the Black community in the demand for an equitable society.

We join our co-workers, colleagues, friends, talent, producers, viewers and their loved ones, many of whom have suffered as a result of racial injustice, including horrific acts of violence and hate.  We are committed to making a difference and want you to know your voices are heard.

Many of us found our way to public media to help build a more inclusive and informed country, and to give voice to those who, for so long, have been unheard.  For 60 years, APT has featured content that sheds light on racial injustice so people can better understand and take action to create change.

From Fannie Lou Hamer: Stand Up and Backs Against The Wall: The Howard Thurman Story to A Ripple of Hope and Marian Anderson: Once In A Hundred Years, APT's content produced by public media stations and independent producers spotlights civil rights leaders, celebrates our differences, builds understanding, and tackles difficult issues.   (See list below.)

We are committed to not only continuing this content, but ensuring that it grows in presenting opportunities for all viewers to see themselves as equal participants in their communities.

We know there is much more work to do, and we are committed to that work, together.  We know we must engage in serious self-reflection, and take action, if we are to contribute meaningfully to changes within our organization, media and the greater society.

We encourage citizens to turn to their local public television stations as a place to engage in thoughtful discussions, in-depth news analysis, and inspiring perspectives as we all strive to bring about change.  Our commitment is to be part of the solution in building an enlightened future of equality for all.
