Applications Developer


Reports to: Director, IT

Summary – Job Objective:
The Applications Developer is responsible for the online presence of the company: designs and implements content management systems, web framework, online registrations, voting systems, video file workflow, video players and backend data systems. This person will also assist the IT department in designing and developing business systems, system integrations and providing end user support.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Design and deploy content management systems
  2. Design UX and UI for websites, video players, submissions and registrations
  3. Develop backend systems for websites and registrations
  4. API integration with public media entities
  5. Configure and secure Web server and data systems
  6. Develop and deploy end-to-end video file workflow
  7. API integration with cloud storage and compute
  8. Design and support voting systems for program offers
  9. Develop communication tools for public media messaging
  10. Drive and manage full life cycle of projects
  11. Assist in business analytics and reports
  12. Advise on acquisition and implementation of web servers and development tools
  13. Provide end user support
  14. Assist in the technology planning of the annual conference (APT Fall Marketplace)
  15. Maintain dependable work attendance

Additional Responsibilities
  1. Perform any related duties as assigned
  2. Assist other departments as needed

Qualifications and Abilities Required
This position requires at least a bachelor’s degree, four years’ experience in Information Technology, with at least two years’ experience in design, development and implementation of websites, business systems and system integrations. Experience at a public television station or public media organization is a plus.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Experiences
  • HTML, CSS, modern JavaScript and MVC (Vue.js, Angular JS)
  • Familiarity with responsive web design and web accessibility best practices
  • Java, JSON and XML
  • REST API development and integration
  • SQL Server/MySQL, general familiarity with relational and document-based databases
  • Node.js, NPM/Yarn
  • Build tools and task runners (e.g. Grunt, webpack)
  • Web server configuration and security
  • Notes Domino development and server administration is a plus
  • Ability to manage projects and deadlines
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Ability to think creatively in an ever-changing industry environment
  • Understanding of the public media system
