Manager, Exchange Digital Content

Summary:
The Exchange Digital Content Manager reports to the Vice President, Exchange Programming & Digital Services, and is primarily responsible for overseeing the growth and maintenance of streaming video operations for the Exchange Content service at American Public Television (APT). Boston-based APT is the largest syndicator of content to public television stations nationwide.

Working closely with APT’s Exchange Content department, other APT departments, and suppliers of Exchange programs, the Exchange Digital Content Manager ensures delivery on the promise of increased distribution of program content, related assets, and metadata for streaming within public television’s digital streaming platforms, and other digital content operations.

APT Exchange, one of American Public Television’s three programming divisions, supplies quality programming to public television stations nationwide and also serves as a distribution gateway for both station and independent producers. Virtually all U.S. public television licensees subscribe to the APT Exchange service and its inventory of more than 6,200 programs or episodes and 3,200 television hours in many content genres. Exchange’s signature series include the lifestyle series America's Test Kitchen From Cook's Illustrated, The Best of the Joy of Painting with Bob Ross, NHK Newsline, Lidia's Kitchen, P. Allen Smith's Garden Home, AfroPoP: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange, Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street Television, Simply Ming, and Rick Steves' Europe.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Manage rights clearance and liaise with program suppliers and other APT departments
  • Strategize with VP, Exchange Content & Digital Services, about windowing content placement
  • Communicate rights availability to stakeholders
  • Ensure proper updating of rights information in database
  • Manage rights trackers
  • Plan and manage content collections
  • Manage workflow tracker
  • Manage pipeline of content onto platforms and communicate to stakeholders
  • Identify and coordinate any editing work related to platforms
  • Oversee process of asset selection and upload
  • Seek assets from suppliers and modify assets as necessary
  • Oversee process of metadata population
  • Perform quality assurance checks on completed work
  • Coordinate with Communications Department to strategize marketing plan
  • Assist VP, Exchange Content & Digital Services, in evaluating platform performance
  • Respond to station and user inquiries regarding APT content on platforms
  • Maintain flexibility as duties may evolve as platforms dictate

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Limited travel may be required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • At least 5 years related experience preferred, ideally in television programming, streaming video, distribution, post-production, or promotion
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Exemplary project management skills
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of and/or facility with learning:
    • Notes software, Google apps, Photoshop, and Excel and other PC-based Microsoft-based applications
    • Web content management systems
