Turn To Public Television For NHK’s Newsline – Providing Up-To-The Minute, Live Reports On The Tragedy in Japan

Specials this coming weekend and daily, live, international news on public television stations nationwide provide coverage to viewers across America.

BOSTON (March 18, 2011) – From the first tremor of last week’s earthquake and the devastating tsunami that followed, millions around the world have witnessed the ongoing crisis in Japan, thanks to the cameras and the reporting from the news team at Japan’s public broadcaster, NHK. Providing photos, video and commentary, NHK’s coverage is delivering up-to-the minute information and an unparalleled view of the human toll and the changing conditions in Japan.

In the United States, public television stations nationwide are providing the news from Japan via NHK’s English, daily news program, NEWSLINE – fed live, several times throughout the day. NEWSLINE also appears daily on public television’s news and documentary channel, WORLD, in select markets.

NHK is producing specials and reports on the crisis, including an in-depth analysis of the failure of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Station, the challenges in protecting power plant workers, as well as critical information for residents and the country at large. To help Americans eager for news from this great distance, NHK continues to provide a vital link to the latest developments of this national tragedy.

In addition to NEWSLINE, the public television feeds have included programs being seen in the Japan domestic market with simultaneous English translation. This unique view of news that the Japanese people are seeing provides a far more intimate perspective on the events unfolding in that country.

On Saturday and again on Sunday there will be specials airing on America’s public television stations. Check local listings for NEWSLINE, the international, daily news program distributed by American Public Television.
